Salary Revision Twice a Year: What Are the Pros and Cons in IT Companies?

I got to know that there is a trend in some IT companies to do salary revision twice a year. I would like to know more about the pros and cons of the same. Can anyone help?

Dear Sulekha,

Though I am not sure which company did this, here's what an IT giant offered its top performers: they offered a bonus which is the highest on their budget. However, that amount was not released at once; it was released in two quarters. These quarters were not the preceding ones but alternate ones spanning over a period of three quarters.

Can anyone guide me on the revision of wages in contract rates? Is claiming arrears the responsibility of the contractor? If the contractor does not claim the arrears and the contract is over, what is the right procedure for claiming arrears? Can the labor ask for the arrears even if the contract goes to another contractor?
