Hi Nurin, I have been to Penang years ago; it's a nice place. My advice to students everywhere is to search the web, attempt to answer the questions posed, and then seek help to improve the answers. I suggest you do the same. Here's a tip: please search for the benefits of an HR department, as that will provide you with ideas regarding the problems that arise without one.

In 2001, I worked in Malaysia where I traveled to many locations including Bintulu, Kuching, Penang, JB, and my H.O was in KL.

Regarding your query, based on my knowledge and the experience I gained in the field of general management, the challenges faced by HR are:

• Interview process not streamlined.
• Job descriptions - not specific and proportional to the practical assignments.
• Employee attitude and behavior management - difficult to set the right things because of a lack of support from senior/top management. Ego is visible at the senior/top management level.
• Employee motivation - not practiced effectively.
• Performance appraisal - not up to the mark and does not meet employee demands.
• Succession management - not visible due to high partiality, which leads to the formation of informal groups.
• Communication strategies - not followed or implemented successfully.

There are many other challenges that also vary from organization to organization. Internship experience is needed to understand this practically.

I feel the challenges faced by HR are as follows:

- Job Descriptions: We struggle to attract a good stream of profiles, and when we try to onboard a person with high hopes and motivation, they may not be properly welcomed by their team.
- Employee motivation: We often attempt to manage people with the resources at hand, but there are times when we cannot address certain employee concerns, leading to difficulties in convincing management. The list of challenges faced by HR goes on endlessly. HR professionals are encountering numerous obstacles in organizations these days, although the specific challenges may vary from one organization to another.

1. Setting up an atmosphere for employees to deliver their responsibilities with passion.

The Importance of Communicating Company Vision and Mission

If the vision or mission of the company is not properly communicated or understood by all employees, problems will arise. All employees must realize and accept what the management or the company values. Based on this, all policies are formulated and rules are established. In my opinion, it is the responsibility of HR to ensure this communication.

Other problems arise in the form of lack of resources and other common HR issues such as attrition rate, relationship building, and maintaining company values.

Well, I think it depends on the organization, and the main problems of HR are related to HR functions like Recruitment and Selection, Training and Development, Performance Management, etc. However, these are quite broad areas where we need to conduct deep research to find out what the actual problems are.

Communication gap could be another issue that is mostly ignored by HR departments. I don't know why, perhaps due to some sort of fear, etc.

- No good potential and efficient employees will be hired.
- There would be no training programs, which means no proper direction for what exactly employees should do.
- No one to oversee performance appraisals, which means a lack of motivation for existing employees.
- Miscommunication among employees, which will definitely affect the organization.
