As per the Factories Act, 1948, Section 62, a register of adult workers must be maintained. The manager of every factory is responsible for keeping this register, which should be accessible to the Inspector at all times during working hours or when any work is being carried out in the factory. The register should include the following details:
- The name of each adult worker in the factory.
- The nature of their work.
- The group, if any, to which they belong.
- If the worker's group works on shifts, the specific relay assigned to them.
- Any other particulars as may be required.
Additionally, if the Inspector deems that a muster roll or register already maintained by the factory contains the necessary worker details, they may direct that it be considered the register of adult workers for that factory.
No adult worker should work in any factory unless their name and other relevant details have been entered into the register of adult workers.
The State Government has the authority to determine the form of the register, how it should be maintained, and the duration for which it must be preserved.
