Office Timing Change in Chennai: Is My New Schedule Fair and Effective?

Admin_HR
Hi all, I am an HR from Chennai. I have introduced a circular on office timing, which is from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm with a 1-hour lunch break. Please suggest if I am correct.

You can have such working hours as per company policy, but generally, people are more comfortable with a half-hour lunch and two 15-minute breaks for tea or coffee. You can make a decision on this. Please also post the notice on the notice board.

What about smoking breaks?

How do you quantify those?

Hi, if the employee stretches and works beyond office hours due to work requirements, smoking breaks can be entertained. However, if employees are going in a group for smoking and wasting time chatting, the same should be monitored and restricted.

Suggestion for Smoking Breaks

My suggestion is one break in the morning and one in the evening, each lasting 5-10 minutes, would be ideal, provided the employee completes the work even after office hours.

Monitoring Break Times

If you have a Door Access Control System, you can assess the actual break times.

Health Awareness Program

In the best interest of the employees' health, you may plan for an awareness program on the dangers of smoking.
