Is a PGDIRM Course with HR Component Worth It for My Career Growth?

I am a student pursuing an M.A. in English and currently undergoing SAP-HR training at an institute in Kolkata. I am interested in enrolling in a regular PGDHRM course. There is an institute offering a course named PGDIRM, where HR is just one component. I would like to inquire if this course would be beneficial for my career progression in the future.

Hi,

The reason I asked about the other subjects is that HR careers cannot operate without knowledge of other sectors. For example, you don't need to learn marketing when pursuing a Finance MBA, and you don't need to study Biology if you aim for a career in chemistry.

So, find out if your course includes Psychology and Labor Laws.

Hi,

This course will be useful. However, my personal view is that it should include psychology since HR is a subject dealing with humans and not inanimate objects. It seems like a bit of a cramped syllabus for one year.

It would be better if you enrolled in a full-time course instead of distance learning. If you can't manage finances, a part-time course would be better than distance learning.

Thank you for your reply. Actually, I am not stressing more in Psychology as a subject in HR because I have studied Psychology as my pass subject during my graduation and as an optional during the IAS Exam. But I should certainly keep in mind what you said.

This course from Bhaban's is a part-time course but regular. Can you please provide me with another piece of information? After the completion of my SAP-HR, how many years of experience do I need for a job actually? Do freshers have any chance here?

I understand that SAP-HR can be a separate career within HR, somewhat like training. So, if your inclination is towards the technical side of HR, this is a good option. I understand freshers can get opportunities in SAP-HR. Once you build about 2-3 years of experience in this field, then it gets better! 😊
