Beware of Job Scams: Insights on Fraudulent Recruitment Practices

Dear Cite HR Members,

I just wanted to bring to everyone's notice that there are emails being circulated claiming that you have been selected by ABC Companies (generally large multinationals, IT, etc.) and tricking prospective candidates into paying around 10,000 as a DD for administration expenses for the interview. They claim this amount is refundable if you attend the interview. No employer should ask a candidate to pay any money in advance for a job offer.

Please, everyone, be cautious of such frauds and do not send any money for a job. The email address from which I received this was from somewhere in Nigeria or another place. Please forward this message to everyone.

Dear Members,

Even I had received an email from one of such spammers asking to deposit Rs. 14,200/- in the following account:

Account Name: Ravinder Singh Gill
Account Number: 20021853230
Bank Name: State Bank of India (SBI)
PAN Number: AQMPG5210G
Branch: Qutub Enclave

The email claimed it was for an interview with Videocon Company and the amount would be refunded during the interview.

Please forward this email through your email IDs to as many people as possible.

Regards,
Abhay

I have also received a similar email, but when I contacted the company for clarity, there was no response. This shows that the company is not taking any steps.

Hello everyone,

There will always be crooks everywhere—not just in India. But it always pays to be careful.

But I think Ayush has made a very pertinent point. When the concerned company doesn't even care to respond, what can one make of it? If anyone uses any of our names for fraud, what would be the natural human response? Take action so that our name isn't tarnished for no fault of ours—isn't it? And when would anyone choose NOT TO RESPOND? The possibilities are open-ended.

Even though they came for campus recruitment, selected a few candidates, and now they are asking for 4k-15k DD. Students and colleges should not encourage that kind of fake companies.

This is absolutely correct. Even I get several emails advising that my bio-data has been approved by employers in Dubai, Oman, and more particularly, the UAE. They claim that on payment of requisite fees, a final interview will take place. They will provide details of the bank account where the money is to be deposited and also ask for passport details. Beware.

Dear members,

I also received an email from a fake Videocon company requesting 25,000 for administrative expenses. Please be cautious of such fraudulent emails.

I have also received the same for asking to pay 6000/- against a call in Delhi, too strange using the Videocon name for a call. It appears once a day or once in a while.
