For attendance purposes, the Muster Roll is the best and legal document. In fact, we also maintain the Muster Roll as a legal document. For leaves, you can use a Leave card. The Leave card may be designed according to your requirements, or you can use formats available on Google.

The most convenient way is to use a Time Attendance software. In my organization, I use CHRONOS software that comes as a free software with ELID Time Attendance Devices. As far as I know, it is also available in India and doesn't cost too much.
