Understanding the Industrial Disputes Act in India

In my knowledge, there is no Industrial Relations Act in India. Of course, there was a move to rename the Industrial Disputes Act in view of the fact that in the new generation in India, we do not have any more "disputes" but aim to bring about "relations." Anyways, the Industrial Disputes Act is meant to bring about good industrial and employee relations in establishments and in India as a whole.

Dear Yogesh, across India, we have the Industrial Disputes Act. In addition to this, we have the Bombay Industrial Relations Act of 1946, which is applicable to the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat only. Therefore, if you are looking for information pertaining to these states, you will need to refer to the Bombay IR Act of 1946 as well.

Dear All,

There is an Industrial Relations Act but no ID Act in Madhya Pradesh. The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Relations Act is applicable to the state of Madhya Pradesh.

There is the Bombay Industrial Relations Act as well as the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Relations Act in Madhya Pradesh, which is applicable in various industries where 100 or more workmen are employed. Only Chapter V & VA are applicable of the ID Act 1947.
