Dear Members,

I would appreciate suggestions on how our HR department could support orphanages beyond traditional charity work.

I am so glad that you are thinking outside the box of 'Charity,' as many companies see this as a one-time activity for their benefit. Here are some of my thoughts:

- You could adopt a child's education up to a certain number of years, such as sponsoring up to primary school, only high school, and so on.

- If they are good at extracurricular activities such as sports, music, dance, art, etc., you could sponsor/teach/organize a teacher. This is one area where they do not have funds apart from their curricular.

- Meet them regularly and organize fun activities.

- Organize painting and poster-making programs/competitions which can be used as a cover page/poster for your company (if you want to).

- Teaching aids for the center.

- Film screening (Non-Commercial, but children's movies).

- A trip/picnic with them.

- Somewhere if you could make them feel that 'They are Special' rather than 'Being Deprived of something.'

- Celebrate Diwali, Holi, Christmas, or some games with them.

Good luck with your good heart.

Dear Maya, it is really good to hear from you about the implementation of CSR activities with charity, which will yield positive results in the minds and hearts of the public regarding the organization.

As advised by Divya, you can sponsor teachers on a contract basis (the teachers will work in the school, and you will make the payments) or you can have some of your employees conduct Spoken English classes for students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th standards. (9th and 10th standard students will be focusing on their public exams.)

You can also organize summer coaching classes for students in the area schools. Additionally, you can regularly conduct dental, eye, and medical check-up camps in the village, especially targeting the students of the school you have identified, at regular intervals.

Consider organizing First Aid Training and Fire Fighting Training programs for villagers who can assist during times of need on a regular basis.

Please discuss these subjects with your management and make a decision, so that your efforts do not go in vain. Before organizing, try to involve all departments in your organization so that their active participation will yield better results.

All the best.

With warm regards, S. Bhaskar
