Understanding PF Eligibility: How Long Must You Work to Claim Your Provident Fund?

sr.dream6
Dear friends,

May I know what is the minimum period of service to claim one's PF amount? I mean, is there any rule that a person should work for a specific period to be eligible to get his PF amount? Does it differ from company to company?

One more question is... Can we apply for PF after 4-5 years after leaving the organization?

There is no specified limit to get the PF amount. After leaving the company for 3 months, one will be eligible to claim it.

Dear all,

In my organization, an XYZ employee was exempted from PF. Now, he is requesting PF facilities with a basic salary of Rs. 6,500, whereas his current basic salary is Rs. 11,500. He has been working with the company for the past 6 years.

Is it possible to provide him with PF facilities?

Thank you.

Dear Sir,

My company's strength is more than 40 employees, and my company is not deducting PF. Can we claim for PF after relinquishment from the company?

Thanks,
S. Kumar

Dear S. Kumar,

In companies with 20 or more employees, it is mandatory for employers to make PF contributions at 12% of the basic salary of employees or 12% of Rs. 6500 maximum. This is a statutory obligation. Please discuss this with your HR or MD.

Thanks,
Hema

Hi,

Very simple! For employee contributions, there is no minimum period requirement to be worked. However, for employer contributions, you must work a minimum of 6 months.
