Absence from Work: Should We Pay Wages for Sunday if Absent Midweek?

kashyap.0001
Dear Sir,

Please let me know if a worker is absent from Wednesday to Saturday, should we still provide wages for Sunday?

Thanks,
Kashyap

I hope he is a monthly-rated regular worker, and Sunday is his weekly off day. If he reports to work on Monday, he will be eligible for Sunday wages. On the other hand, if he remains absent on Monday also, he will lose his off-day wages.

Dear Kashyap,

Madhu T K is correct. If he reports to work on Monday, he will be eligible for Sunday wages as well. Otherwise, if he remains absent on Monday, he will be considered absent on Sunday too, resulting in the loss of his off-day wage.

Dear Sunita, v, Madhu.T.K Ji,

Actually, you are all correct, but it depends on the company's PL/CL/SL rules.

Whatever the nature of the leave, if an employee resumes duty on the date following his off day/holiday, he should be given that off day/holiday. As already stated, in case he remains on leave on the day following the day off/holiday, only the matter of CL, PL, or LOP will have to be checked. Under normal policies, an off day/holiday intervening two CL days will not be counted as leave, but an off day/holiday intervening two PL or LOP days will be counted as PL or LOP, as the case may be.
