How Should I Handle Latecomers and Uninformed Absences? Considering Fines as a Solution

pvr_sharma
I am facing a problem regarding latecomers as well as workers being absent without any prior information. To address this issue, what steps should I take? Specifically, I am considering the possibility of imposing fines for these actions. If fines are indeed applicable, could you please advise on the appropriate amount?

Your guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Hoping for an early response.

Hi Sharma,

In our organization, the policy for latecomers is as follows: for 3 late arrivals, half a day will be deducted, and for 5 late arrivals in a month, a full day will be deducted. I hope this resolves your query.

Thanks,

I like to add some additions to Mr. Chander's quote. For the employees who were on leave without information, do not deduct their days without verification. If they are habitual with this behavior, then deduct the same number of days for their absence without information.

You need to identify the employee(s) who are repeatedly late. Taking action against them will provide learnings for them and lessons for others, as well as satisfaction for regular timekeepers. Imposing a fine is not an approach of HR. Other than that, floating a good attendance policy will also work out the situations pretty well.

I believe you also need to understand the reason for late arrivals. If it is a case of mismanaging work-life balance, you can definitely help. If it is a case of attitude, you have the right to take action against them.

Hope this post will help.

First, tell me what the company's standing order or rules speak about regarding latecomers and adhere to that. If you decide to act against the rules of the company, it would be termed as a violation.
