What is the eligibility criteria for UGC NET?

The eligibility criteria for UGC NET vary depending on the subject and category of the candidate. However, in general, candidates must have a Master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC/SC/ST/PwD candidates) from a recognized university. Additionally, candidates appearing in the final year of their Master's degree are also eligible to apply.

Hi Mishal,

To qualify for the UGC NET, you must have a master's degree. You can choose any subject from your master's degree for the exam. The UGC NET consists of three papers:

1) General studies (50 objective questions)
2) Your optional paper (50 objective questions)
3) Your optional paper (subjective questions)

The second paper will be checked only after qualifying the first paper, and the third paper will be checked after qualifying the second paper. Therefore, it is essential to qualify in the first and second papers.

I have appeared for B.A. (Gen) final exam this year. I want to go for M.A., but the problem is no university would admit me as a regular candidate. So, if I do M.A. from IGNOU, would I be eligible for appearing in NET? What are my options then?

There are several things you need to consider before applying for the UGC NET exam. First and most importantly, you must have completed your master's degree from a UGC-recognized institute or college. You must have scored a minimum of 55% marks in your master's degree, among other requirements. For a full list, you can check out this website.
