Transitioning from a 6-Day to a 5-Day Work Week: How Can We Make It Work?

divprakash
I am working in the HR Department of a company where we follow a 6-day work week culture, and our employees only have Sundays off. Recently, we have proposed a 5-day work week culture so that all employees can have weekends off, either on Saturdays and Sundays or with alternate Saturdays off.

Regarding this, we currently offer:
- PL: 30 days
- CL: 6 days
- SL: 7 days

Could anyone provide examples of how we can implement this change? We are open to all leaves being taken and new leave policies being introduced. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Divpraksh,

It's good that you have proposed a new work culture, i.e., working for 5 days in a week. In case you are going to give Saturdays and Sundays as weekly offs, then I would suggest that you extend your company's work timing. For example, if you are working from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, then you can extend your evening time by 1 hour or by 1 and 1/2 hours. In this case, your Saturday's work will also get completed in the remaining 5 days, and your employees can enjoy their weekly offs.

If you are planning to work half days on Saturdays, then you can extend your 5 days timing by only 1 hour.

Dear Ankit,

It's true that if anyone proposes having four Saturdays off, the office timings should be adjusted. However, in our company, we currently have two Saturdays off and we would like to have all Saturdays off. If we present this proposal to management, what should be the justification?

Please reply soon.
