Starting with Labor Law: Can You Recommend a Simple Book and Guide on Returns?

I want to start with labor law. Please suggest a book that is very useful and written in simple language. Currently, many returns have to be submitted under the Contract Labor Law. Please guide me on all the returns and registers that need to be maintained, along with their last dates.

Industrial Law by Sh. P L Malik and Labour Law-related books written by Sh. H L Kumar will help you in gaining knowledge of various labor laws. Registers and returns are governed by the Central or State Rules under the Contract Labour (R&A) Act. Therefore, first decide which is applicable in your case, and then review those Rules to understand the formats for returns and registers. Regarding the submission of returns, there is only one return, i.e., the annual return, which the Principal employer needs to submit to the Registering Officer, while the contractor is required to send half-yearly returns to the Licensing Officer of the area. The deadline for the submission of returns is also specified in the Rules. We cannot alter the language of the Act and Rules as enacted by the Appropriate Government.
