Feeling Underpaid at Ericsson? Seeking Advice on Navigating Salary Discussions

Hi all,

Currently, I am working at Ericsson with almost 4 years of experience and a package of 3.1 l.p.a. I personally think this package is less compared to the market, especially considering that freshers are getting more than 3.5 l.p.a. Our annual discussion is about to take place. Please guide me on this. Our manager conducts the review, and the details are then sent to HR. Whom do I need to contact if necessary? Should I wait for the discussion and bring it up then, or should I address it before the final discussion?

Not sure what your background is (job role & education) since compensation is dependent on that and not just the years of experience.

I am assuming that it's all in place and that you are genuinely underpaid - in that case, ideally, have a clear and open discussion with your line manager and share your apprehension. At the same time, you can also say that you would like to discuss this with the HR team as well.

Most line managers (depending on company culture) usually look at HR discussions as an escalation, and hence it might be best to keep the line manager in the loop first. Moreover, since increments are linked to performance, if you have your line manager's support, it will become easier for you. However, it's just a suggestion, and do as you feel appropriate depending on your org culture, your relationship with the line manager, etc.

As far as comparison with freshers is concerned - if you are an undergrad with 4 yrs of work experience, and freshers are lateral hires from top B schools, then they are bound to get better compensation, which is only fair. Similarly, people in different LOBs get differential compensation. So just have your perspectives in place before you go for this discussion.

Thanks for the input from all of you; I am feeling guided at this moment and a bit relaxed. Regarding one of the posts above, I have a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication from an A Grade college, which I believe is better than the experience of freshers who joined at a higher package.

Years of experience alone are not the sole factor in determining your package, but it is certainly one of the vital elements. Other factors, such as your qualifications, role, and designation, play an important role as well. There is a minimum and maximum range for each level within every company. If you have been in the same designation for many years, your salary will always fall within the same range regardless of your years of experience.

If you are at the same level during a pay revision, and the maximum package for that particular level is only 3.2 L p.a., and you are already at 3.1 L, then your maximum increment will only be 10k.
