Are Employees with Disabilities in Karnataka Exempt from Profession Tax?

We have one employee with a disability at our Bangalore office. I would like to know if employees with disabilities are exempt from paying Profession Tax through their salary or not.

Yes, a handicapped employee is exempt from Profession Tax (PTax) payment on the condition that he/she has a medical certificate from an authorized hospital confirming that he/she is handicapped more than 60%.

Profession Tax Exemption for Physically Handicapped Employees

Physically handicapped individuals are exempted from paying the PT. However, a physically handicapped employee should have a certificate from the Government Health Department stating his disability.
