Considering a Move from HR to Operations in an MNC for Better Exposure: Is It a Good Idea?

Dear all,

I am getting an opportunity to work in a very renowned MNC with a very good package in a metro city, but in the operations department. Presently, I am working in a very small company in the HR department as an HR Executive in a small city. Can I plan to work in that MNC for some time just to get exposure to a better workplace and then later get back to HR whenever a better opportunity comes my way? I have heard that a person from any other management stream can shift to the HR department after gaining certain years of experience.

You should certainly try this option. It will give you an exposure that you cannot have in a small company. You will learn a lot, and the operations experience will help you as you climb up the ladder. You never know what can happen in the future. Don't restrict yourself to only HR. There are other options like recruitment and resource management, which are equally exciting.

I am responding, although I'm not sure of your specialization. I am assuming it is HR. Yes, go ahead and get cross-functional experience. This would certainly help you later when you switch back to HR. A small suggestion: tighten up your writing skills - you've made some basic spelling errors. Hope you take it in the right spirit. Best of luck.
