I recently attended an interview and was able to answer one specific question. Although I got selected, it is now my duty to understand it. The question was about layoffs - what is the process of layoff bylaws? Is there a specific procedure that an organization should follow when declaring layoffs? Are there any government norms regarding this?

You may go through chapters VA & VB of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 relating to Layoff & Retrenchment.
