HR Professionals: Can You Share Insights on Current Workplace Challenges and Training?

I am an HR student in Australia and I need to ask a question to an HR professional. Unfortunately, I do not know one except for my teacher, who cannot participate. I was wondering if an HR professional could please help me. Here is the question:

Interview an HR/IR practitioner and determine what the greatest challenges in the workplace currently are?
What training was undertaken to meet these challenges?
What additional training and development are seen as priorities?

This would differ from industry to industry and company to company. I am giving you a generalized opinion.

a) Challenges: Incorporating all the new members into the existing work culture and practices
b) Solutions: Orientation and induction program calendar; Orientation on Performance Measurement system
c) Soft skills and technical training. Looking at outbound learning experiences that can help in goal setting, leadership, and team building.

• To train and motivate the employees at a time: To train them with the continuously changing business needs, to keep their skills/talent updated, and also to prepare their skill inventory for future business projects. Motivation is also very crucial so that people sustain in the organization as all the costs/training expenses/company branding are directly dependent on the employee's long-term sustainability with the organization.

What training was undertaken to meet these challenges?

• Both external/internal planned training under the yearly Training Calendar. Also, small grooming sessions that are generally unstructured have been planned as they help a lot in learning the basic yet important work concepts and can be easily organized in a small group. Here, Mentorship also plays a role by conferring a small group of people to a senior person who can monitor the talent graph of that respective group.

What additional training and development are seen as priorities?

• Soft skills and work behavior attitudes. These are very important especially when we move higher in the hierarchy. Also, Team Leaders should be well aware of how to deliver tasks to their teams effectively. Induction training needs to be revised within a regular time framework.

Hi! Building a high morale workplace is the greatest challenge in the workplace. If morale is low, participation is likely to be limited to doing what's required or otherwise expected. Conversely, high morale suggests that individuals will participate with enthusiasm and commitment.

What steps should you take?

1. Tune into the emotional needs of your employees.
2. Generate a spirit of gratitude.
3. Spread contagious enthusiasm wherever you go.
4. Treat employees as humans, not just workers.

Being an HR person, you can teach these things to your employees and the managers. Hire people who are the right fit with your organization's community and culture. Coach and mentor people to their highest potential. Integrate new hires so that they feel welcome.

The biggest problem in a manufacturing concern is the "changing mindset of people (staff and workers)". They are not ready to accept HR as a part of their organization. They think the shop floor requires maximum efforts and time, and they view HR as just a cost to the company.

Introducing change and benchmarking practices to the existing workforce sounds to be the greatest challenge for HR/IR. What training was undertaken to meet these challenges? Technical inputs, safety-related inputs, and personality development programs such as self-efficacy, shop floor leadership, and managing change.

What additional training and development are seen as priorities? Stress management, recreational activities, etc.

Retention of employees

Handling grievances and satisfying every employee's needs while abiding by the company policies

Balanced approach between management and employees
