How Can We Move to a 5-Day Workweek for All Shifts Without Adding Staff?

Dear Seniors,

We are a part of a large MNC group and currently working for 6 days a week. We are looking to implement a five-day schedule without increasing manpower for all three shifts.

Can you please help me out with this?

Please find attached herewith the shift rotation sample for 7 employees' shift roster for one week with two weekly offs.

Dear Anuj,

Is management planning to minimize costs by working 5 days? Is it also planned to have Saturday and Sunday off? Please respond to these issues for better solutions. Mr. Parthsarthi has suggested a staggered off/rotational off system (a very apt system) which has been practiced by major manufacturing and continuous process organizations.

Best wishes,

Dear Seniors,

I have sent my PF withdrawal form to my previous employers more than 5 times, but they have not been submitted to the department due to a shortage of manpower. Please suggest how I can withdraw my PF as my services have been more than 9 years.

Hi,

May I ask what the current shift system is? How many people are working in each shift?

Which industry are you working in - manufacturing or services? (Remember, both industries have shifts).

If it's manufacturing:
Are all machinery being utilized, or are any left unused?
Are you working for an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing)?
What's the schedule for the orders - do you have annual bulk standardized production, or is it seasonal and based on client demand and new accounts?
What's the intention behind reducing the working days?

If in the service industry:
What kind of service do you provide? What's the SLA? Let us know, as it will help.

GIVE INFORMATION TO RECEIVE THE RIGHT INFO!

Partho - Thanks a lot. That helped me :-)

Dear Friend,

Your query is a bit unclear. What exact help do you need in this case from us? Also, what are the criteria of your company in changing this policy? Please specify in a bit more detail.

Hi Anuj,

If you are intending to work five days instead of six days, the provisions of the law allow you to work up to 9 working hours a day, then you could work 9 + 1 hour off (10 hours) a day. You could cover up to 45 hours a week. And if you could cut short the lunch hour to 30 minutes (however, declare as 12.30 to 2.00 is a flexible lunch break), without specifying the break time, you could save another 30 minutes. Thus, you could work 9.30 x 5 = 47.50 hours a week, which is almost 48 hours a week.

You could manage your production/manufacturing activities with this. In case it is a software industry, where is the question of time-bound working? You guys will anyway work until you doze off. :)
