Professional Tax In Maharashtra : Exemption Limit Increased

Dear friends,
Exemption limit for professional tax from salary in Maharashtra has been inceased from Rs.2,500 p.m. to Rs.5,000 p.m. from today, i.e. 1.7.2009. There is no change in other slabs. Revised schedule is attached for your ready reference.

Should we consider over time a part of gross salary to calculate Proffessional Tax?

Sir,
I am Ph.D student, getting fellowship for reseach (16,000 per month) from University Grants Commission. Please let me know that whether the fellowship holder also have to pay professional tax? if no please give me the act. If yes please aware me about the limit of payment.
