soni.sharma
Hi Seniors!

I want to know what is the amount of experience needed for the designation of Assistant Manager - HR and whether a fresher, after completion of the probation period (1 year / 6 months), can be confirmed as Assistant Manager?

Looking forward to your reply.

Dear Soni,

I am an Assistant Manager of Human Resources and Administration in a reputed manufacturing company in Bangalore with over 500 employees. I have one year of prior experience as an HR Executive, and I am currently performing well in my role. Therefore, the number of years of experience should not be a determining factor for the Assistant Manager position.

Thank you.

Dear Sonia,

Experience doesn't matter for reaching the post of Assistant Manager. It's basically your skills and luck sometimes that can take you there.

Best wishes,

Dear Sonia,

If you have an MBA degree, then after completing your management trainee period, you can be confirmed as an Assistant Manager.

Soni,

Below points might help you:

- Titles are given depending on the industry and its workforce size.
- In small-sized organizations, you may attain this position very early in your career.
- Bigger corporates in IT, with which I am familiar, require a minimum of 5 years of solid HR experience. Typical titles that I have seen so far are:
Trainee -> HR Executive -> Sr. HR Executive -> Asst. Mgr - HR -> Mgr. HR -> Sr. HR Mgr -> AVP/DGM -> VP/GM -> SVP/Head HR.

My suggestion to you is to focus more on roles and responsibilities in the best interest of the organization you work for. If you do so, the titles and money will come simultaneously. All the best!

To be simple, it's not about how many years of experience you have. It's about your education, ability to handle situations, and knowledge.

Hi Sonia,

It depends on various factors. Different organizations have different structures, grades, and parameters to judge performance. For example, depending on the organization structure as "KK" said, it can be: Trainee -> HR Executive -> Sr. HR Executive -> Asst. Mgr - HR -> Mgr. HR -> Sr. HR Mgr -> AVP/DGM -> VP/GM -> SVP/Head HR. Or it can be: Trainee -> Asst. Mgr - HR -> Mgr. HR -> Sr. HR Mgr -> AVP/DGM -> VP/GM -> SVP/Head HR. (Yes, one can be confirmed as Asst. Manager on completion of probation). Similarly, it can vary as per grades, performance, etc. But it completely depends on the company policy.

Dear Sonia,

I don't understand why you worry about this matter. In the IT and ITES industry, people often start their careers as HR Managers from day one.

Dear KK,

I believe that between the position of Assistant Manager and HR Manager, there is another role known as Deputy Manager HR. If I am mistaken, please kindly correct me.

Thank you.

Dear Meenu,

As already mentioned earlier, it varies from organization to organization. Why just "Deputy Manager"? There can be an "Asst. General Manager" between Senior Manager and Deputy General Manager; also, an "Additional General Manager" just before General Manager. I hope you will have an open mind when considering these "terms."

Regards.
