Is a Diploma in Training and Development from ISTD the Right Move for My HR Career Transition?

I have been working as an HR Generalist for the past year, but I am eager to delve into the areas of Training and Development (T&D). I have completed a full-time MBA in HR and am now seeking a certification course that can facilitate my transition into T&D. Therefore, I would appreciate your guidance on whether pursuing a diploma in T&D from ISTD would be worthwhile and beneficial for my career, or if there are other viable alternatives worth considering.

ISTD is the only government-recognized certification body for Training & Development in India. There is also the American ASTD. However, in the Indian context, ISTD is considered the best. You will gain some learning from it. The best learning comes from practice, which you will have to explore on your own. ISTD does not assist in that. The certification holds value.

If you wish to have a specialized course on Training and Development, ISTD diploma is a good option. I have just cleared my two semesters and am currently preparing for the internship report. The diploma offered by Oscar Murphy is also a good option.

ISTD offer good options. Apart from this, you can also apply for a state guide.

Unfortunately, ISTD is the only good course available in India in T&D. I am a registered guide for the course. The course curriculum needs to be revised to bring it in line with industry requirements, but it is well recognized in the industry. If you want to make your career in T&D, I would certainly recommend it. If your company is sponsoring you, why can't you try for certified courses by ISAB & SUMEDHAs? This would give you a better edge if you are looking forward to becoming an OD specialist.

You can try enrolling for a 1-year PG Diploma in T&D from ICFAI, Tripura via Flexi mode. The curriculum is vast and highly valued.

I am currently in my 4th semester of MBA in HR and have been working in the e-learning field for almost 3 years now. I am also interested in pursuing the ISDT course as it is government-recognized.

I am interested in undergoing a Diploma in T&D. I would also like to know if anybody has undergone the Diploma from Oscar Murphy. The course content looks fine. The Art of Training

Training is an art that cannot be learned by undergoing a course; it can only be learned by doing it. Give yourself as many opportunities as possible to take sessions on topics of your choice, within your company or outside. Training comes easily to people who have good platform skills. Improve your presentation and public speaking skills, then use these skills to deliver knowledge.

Steps to Enhance Training Skills

The best way is to get into teaching. Become a visiting faculty at an institute and learn the dynamics of classroom management live. Attend seasoned trainers' sessions to learn how they plan their delivery, how they utilize activities to teach, when and how they use PowerPoint presentations, and how they present a topic through lecturing, etc. Based on this, develop your own method.

Benefits of ISTD Membership

ISTD is a good platform for learning, sharing, and staying updated on the training industry. Become a member. Their Diploma program will not add value to an MBA-HR but might help those from non-MBA/management backgrounds gain a theoretical understanding of HRD and training. It is a correspondence course.
