Exploring the IR Function in HR: How Can I Transition from Salary Administration?

menka
Hi, I am working in a pharma company. Presently, I am looking after salary administration but I want to learn more about the IR function.

Hi Menka,

If you want to know about the IR function, you have to study the Acts perfectly, especially the ID Act of 1947, Trade Union Act of 1926, Standing Orders Act, and so on. That will give you an idea of IR functions.

The IR is a vast field. What exactly is your question? Clarify first.

Dear Menka,

I appreciate the post posted by my friend Mr. Rajeev Dixit but there is more to Industrial Relations than the Industrial Disputes Act and Trade Union Act.

The following are the functions of an employee handling Industrial Relations:

1) Employee Compensation and Benefits
2) Provident Fund
3) ESIC
4) Employee Grievances
5) Accidents Reporting and Investigation
6) Attendance System including Time Office
7) Factory/Company related Issues
8) Housekeeping
9) Canteen (Including Infrastructure, Food, and Water provided)
10) Dealing with Unions
11) Dealing with Government Authorities like Factory Inspector, Labour Commissioner
12) Agreements with the Union during the time of settlement
13) Transportation
14) Legal Compliance and Statutory Compliance
15) Any other issues or work related to the Acts mentioned in the Labour Laws

I think that I have cleared your doubt.

Dear Ankitji :-D

You have rightly listed the functions, but if she doesn't know the acts, i.e., the legal part, how can she handle employee grievances, Provident Fund, ESIC, Legal Compliance, and Statutory Compliance? These things are an integral part of IR functions.

Dear Rajeev & Ankit,

It is a great help to me. I know the rules under PF and ESI, but I am confused between IR and personnel functions because IR is mainly related to the image-building function. I think the list provided by Ankit is helpful.

Rakesh
