How Effective Is Your Open-Door Policy in Building Trust and Communication?

sojuloyola@yahoo.com
Dear Seniors,

"An open-door policy means, literally, that every manager's door is open to every employee. The purpose of an open-door policy is to encourage open communication, feedback, and discussion about any matter of importance to an employee. When a company has an open-door policy, employees are free to talk with any manager at any time. Companies adopt open-door policies to develop employee trust and to ensure that important information and feedback reach managers who can utilize the information to make changes in the workplace. An open-door policy is normally a part of the employee handbook."

Welcome valuable comments.

Dear Sojuloyola,

You are correct, but the Open Door Policy is not only about every manager's door being open. It means that employees can share or give feedback to their immediate supervisor and manager, including top management employees like the CEO as well.

No doubt, the Open Door Policy creates a strong relationship between employees and management but also gives them a chance to participate in management decisions.

Sorry to interrupt you, but sometimes employees can't understand why exactly the company is maintaining an open-door policy. They feel that higher authorities are showing leniency to everyone. In that situation, how can we stop them from negative thinking?

Thank you.
