Need Help Implementing Six Months Maternity Leave: Can Anyone Share the Official Notification?

HR Delhi
Hi,

Could anyone email me the notification from the government on six months' maternity leave? I need to implement this in our office.

Thanks,
HR

Hi,

There will be no notification in this regard since this is specified in the "Maternity Benefit Act, 1961" itself. It's mandatory for all employers to extend the benefit to all women employees who have worked more than 160 days in a year. Please refer to Sec. 5 of the above act for more details.

Thank you for your message. It appears you are considering extending our maternity leave policy from three months to six months in accordance with the Maternity Leave Act of 1961. I have noticed that many companies already provide a six-month maternity leave. How did they initiate this change? Was there any formal notification issued? Are they offering this extended leave based on the Maternity Act of 1961?

Hi Suresh,

I have read Section 5 of the Maternity Benefit Act 1961, but I didn't find anywhere mentioned that we can extend the leave to six months. Could you send me a link where I can see this?

Thanks,
HR

Dear Suresh,

Please go through the Maternity Benefit Act. The eligibility for maternity benefit is now 80 days of working, whereas previously, it was 160 days.
