Feeling Stuck in a Recession? What Courses Can Boost Your HR Career Prospects?

shimona talwar
Hi everyone,

I am currently pursuing an MBA from a mediocre institute, specializing in HR. In this time of recession, I have no hopes of getting placed. So right now, I wish to study further. Can someone please suggest some courses that are in demand and would add weight to my CV?

Thanks in advance,
Shimona

Dear Shimona,

Please consider pursuing a Diploma in Labour Laws if you are planning to enter the field of HR.

Be slow and steady, do one course at a time and absorb it 100%. Start with labor laws, then competence mapping or psychometric testing, compensation and benefits, and so on.

Dear Shimona,

I can understand your problem. Pursuing an LLB is not a bad idea; you can take up the job in between.

Thanks,

Thank you all for sparing your valuable time and replying. I am really grateful. I wanted to ask if there are some other full-time courses too, like LLB. I have started to look, but other than that, are there some courses in training or anything that you can think of that would add value?

Also, for labor laws, which are the good institutes?

Hi Shimona,

I understand it is tough to get a job you expected in this time of recession. Please change yourself to accept the job, whatever you get according to your stream easily, and gain experience in the job while studying a Diploma in Labour Laws simultaneously. Please don't lose hope. The word recession requires you to be patient like everyone else. Keep trying for interviews. You will definitely succeed.

My best wishes in advance for you.

Dear Shimona,

There is no need to change anything. It is just your worries that are creeping inside you. First of all, we should understand that the recessionary time isn't that bad that we won't fetch a job. Secondly, if HR is specialized, we need not look for anything else because as HR professionals, we can get a job anywhere. The only thing we need to work on is where?

There are certain tactics to get in direct touch with HR. Send your resume from the sites of the company in the Career option. They will surely get back to you if you are able to satisfy the criteria they need. Do not think about anything else because you are already pursuing specialization. And please do not demotivate her by suggesting weird options. I hope this helps us to get things cleared up.

Hi,

I always suggest learning more and more and pursuing additional courses as recommended by senior members.

But the most important thing is to be positive. Never say "I have no hopes." If you are confident, you will easily get a job. This positive attitude will also help you in your interviews.

We are all aware of the current market conditions and have discussed them extensively. Despite this, the Indian market is not as bad as perceived. Hiring is still ongoing.

Remember, confidence is key to success and sustainability in the market for everyone.

Please respect your own institute first, then respect yourself, and then your studies. No institute is bigger than a human being. A human being itself is an institute. No qualification is bigger than experience; you must have faith in your ability. Do not chase big commercials. Use your mind and try to learn more about HR and yourself to become a good HR professional. No institute is mediocre; all are good.

Thank you so much, Sam, Brijesh, and Pallavi. I am looking for jobs and have posted my resume. Alongside this, I am also searching for courses to enhance my qualifications. If any of you know of any good options worth pursuing, please let me know.

Thank you so much!

Hi Partho,

Well, I totally respect my institute. What I am today is because of my education. I feel indebted to my teachers. But the fact of life is, brand name matters. This is a fact that there are 'A' grade colleges and there are colleges which are not as good as the IIMs. That definitely does not make them bad, but placements are not good and fetching a job becomes difficult.

I have faith in my abilities, but I can't deny the fact that there is cut-throat competition.

I know myself very well, and I started this thread to seek guidance from the seniors. I want to ask how I can become a good HR professional and what more I can do because I believe learning is a never-ending process. Doing MBA in HR cannot and should not put a full stop to my professional learning.

Hi everyone,

For courses in psychometric testing, I can't find institutes or colleges. Please suggest and help.

Thanks!

Dear Shimona,

Psychometric testing is a tool in HR. There are no institutes offering specialization for the same. If we are really looking for some other course of action, we can always choose Industrial Relations, which goes hand in hand with Human Resource. This will be an added qualification to what we are presently pursuing. Also, we can pursue Business Law, under which we will be able to justify the needs, demands, the policies, and the organization's operational law. I hope this will add more insight to the learning.
