Understanding Code of Ethics: What Happens If You Violate It During or After Employment?

rctiwari@hotmail.com
Dear Friends,

Please help me in understanding the implications of "Code of Ethics". Normally, the Code of Ethics is signed as soon as anybody joins the company. This is a mandatory requirement. What are the implications if someone is found involved in any activity that violates any rule? Is there any implication after an employee leaves the job, or do they have any legal obligations under the Code of Ethics? If yes, what is the nature?

Regards,
RCT

Dear Vipin,

A code of ethics is like tying yourself with the company. The company expects a lot from you. They want you to know your work ethics and avoid behavior that goes against your work ethics or code of ethics. Ethics is essentially about knowing what is good and what is bad; it is basically the study of morality. There are no legal implications after resigning from the job, but one should have personal ethics. At least, that is what I expect.

But supporting a family business is, in any case, a violation of the Code of Ethics because she can only do the job that she knows best.
