Procedure in Maharashtra:
1. Fill the application appended to the Shop Act to obtain the license, stating the name, address, number of employees employed, name of the manager, name of the owner, etc.
2. Get a challan (4 copies) for the payment of prescribed fees filled and stamped from the office of the shop inspector.
3. Pay the fees (which depend upon the number of employees employed) in the State Bank of India-treasury branch and obtain a stamped copy of the challan.
4. Attach the challan to the application form mentioned above and submit it to the shop inspector of the concerned area (within 30 days from the opening date of the shop).
5. After about a week, the license is issued.
[*Important note: Before submitting the license, ensure compliance with all the mandatory provisions of the Act, as sometimes the inspector visits the premises to check for compliance. Non-compliance may result in fines being levied.*]
