Calculating Leave Entitlement: How Do You Handle Mid-Year Appointments?

Hi,

How should the leave entitlement be calculated in the following case? The person was appointed on 15.10.07 and confirmed on 14.10.08. Can you please explain how I can calculate his leave entitlement?

For leave entitlement confirmation, it is not a legal matter. Therefore, he is entitled to get leave at 1 day for every 20 days of work in the preceding year. Normally, leave is calculated on a calendar year basis. Therefore, his attendance from 1st Jan 08 to 31st Dec 08 shall be taken into account. He is also entitled to leave for the days worked from 15th Oct 07 to 31st Dec 07.
