Understanding Minimum Wages for Graduates: How Do We Classify Skill Levels?

Dear Members,

I require your help once again. Please inform me about the current minimum wages that should be provided to a graduate (non-skilled) and the section of the Minimum Wages Act in which this information is specified. Additionally, could you explain how we can differentiate between skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers?

Hi,

According to the labor law act, the minimum wage should be Rs 4025 gross. If he is a graduate with basic communication skills, you can offer him 7-8k.

Hi Swati,

While finalizing the salary, you also need to keep in mind:

1) Location - Consider the place the person comes from. For instance, if you are hiring from metro cities, the pay expectation will be higher compared to hiring from smaller places where the expectation may be lower.

2) Background of the person - Take into account the individual's background. Someone from a well-to-do family may not feel as much need for money, while someone from a lower strata may have a greater need and be more willing to accept what you are offering.

Thank you.
