Rehired Employees: Should We Reuse Their Old Employee ID or Assign a New One?

Prasad81
When an employee has been allocated an employee code, leaves the organization, and then rejoins after some time, should we continue using his previous employee ID or is it better to assign a new employee ID? This is particularly relevant in cases where the employee ID does not include the year or date of joining.

Dear Prasad,

According to me, if an employee ID is given to Employee A and the employee leaves the company, then that ID does not remain valid for the new Employee B who joins as a replacement for Employee A. A new employee ID is assigned to the new employee.

Usually, what happens is if an employee leaves an organization, then his ID number can't be given to a different employee who replaces him because all the necessary information would be stored under that particular person with a unique ID number given to him. No two people can have the same identification number, whether he is still with the same company or left the company and joined a new one. It is always better to give a different and new employee ID to the newcomer.

Guys, I think his question is if we can allocate the same ID to the person who quits the company and then joins back after a period of time. Is that what you were asking, Mr. Prasad?
