Understanding Attrition: How Do You Calculate and Control Employee Turnover?

nsridharmurthy
Hi all,

Can anybody let me know how to calculate the attrition rate and what measures I need to take to control attrition in any organization?
Shrithi
Hi,

There are many ways of calculating attrition. Usually, the following formula is used across the industry:

Number of employees relieved during the year / (Number of employees at the start of the year + Number of employees joined during that year)

Hope this is useful.

Shrithi.

Hi,

The formula provided by Shrithi is also used by many organizations. In addition to this formula, the following formula is also commonly used:

Attrition Rate = (No. of Employees Resigned / Avg. No. of Employees) * 100

Where:
Avg. No. of Employees = (Opening Balance + Closing Balance) / 2

You can calculate monthly, quarterly, and annual attrition rates using these formulas.
