Hi, I joined a company in April, and I have not signed any contract with the company. In my offer letter, it was mentioned that there is a three-month probation period, but it can extend up to six months based on performance. I didn’t receive any permanent mail, nor did I submit or sign any contract or bond with the company.

I resigned this Monday because of some personal issues, which I also mentioned in my resignation email. On Tuesday, I went to the office in a hurry because we were leaving for the hospital. I couldn’t wait long for the IT Team to come, so I found one of my colleagues outside the office. I handed over the company-issued laptop to him, and he gave it to the company. Now they are sending me a legal notice, claiming that I breached the contract, engaged in misconduct, committed fraudulent activities, and handed over the laptop to an unauthorized person instead of the IT Team. They are demanding 10 lakh rupees from me.

Hi, If the laptop is issued to you by the authorized staff of the company, when surrendering it back, you should follow the proper process. Leaving it with a colleague is not a professional way to handle it. Please contact the HR department and follow the proper separation process.
