Leave Distribution for Midyear Joiners

If an employee joins midyear, say in March, as a new employee and has to complete a 6-month probation period until August, how should I distribute 7 SL (Sick Leave) and 7 CL (Casual Leave) for that calendar year?

Distribution of Earned Leave (EL)

What about the 12 EL (Earned Leave)? How should I distribute that?

Leave Entitlement for Midyear Joiners

Any employee joining the services of an organization in the middle of the year and continuing to work there throughout the rest of the year would be entitled to receive all kinds of leave admissible for the whole year on a proportionate basis. The probation period, irrespective of its length, would not alter their entitlement to leave for the actual period of service rendered. As the very name suggests, earned leave (EL) would accrue only on completion of one year of continuous service from the date of joining.

So like they get 7 SL and 7 CL from the very time they join the company irrespective of probation period and they get EL only after completing one year. Right?

This varies from company to company policy. During the probation period, an employee can only avail 1 or 2 leaves per month, including SL or CL. Apart from 1 or 2 leaves, other leaves will be considered as LOP during the probation period. After successful completion of the probation period, they can avail all the leaves as per the policy. For example, 7 SL, 7 CL, and of course EL.

Please note that I mentioned 'proportionate basis'. Since his length of service at the end of the calendar year would be 9 months plus some days only, he would be entitled to only 3/4 of each 7 days under CL and SL respectively. If the employer is magnanimous, let him allow full - no problem.
