Employers Liability to maintain records - if he is directly engaging workmen on contractual basis?

In case, an employer is directly engaging workmen on contractual basis, please suggest what are the various records he has to maintain under the various labour laws. ESI/PF registration numbers already been taken . Please also suggest various return to be submitted.
