The ESIC (Employee's State Insurance Corporation) sickness benefit is provided to insured individuals who are unable to work due to illness. To avail of this benefit, the insured person needs to submit a medical certificate issued by an ESIC-authorized doctor certifying the illness and the duration of incapacity to work. Once the medical certificate is submitted, the insured person can claim the sickness benefit for a maximum of 91 days in two consecutive benefit periods. The benefit amount is generally around 70% of the average daily wages. To claim the sickness benefit, the insured individual needs to fill out a claim form and submit it along with the medical certificate to the ESIC office. The benefit amount is then credited to the insured person's bank account.
