Respected sir, I am currently working as a welfare officer in the textile division. We have changed the canteen contractor in our establishment. How can we obtain the worker canteen hygiene certificate? What is the procedure to obtain it? Please suggest me.

Please clarify under which act or provision are you wanting this certificate. I don’t recall any such requirements under factory act

There is no provision in the Factories Act for a hygiene certificate for canteen workers. However, your state factories rules will have provisions for the periodic medical examination of canteen workers by a certifying surgeon. Please go through it.

Hello,
Irrespective of the legal requirements, many companies now deem it fit to get hygiene monitoring done in their industrial canteens, cafeterias, and food courts to ensure food safety and thus the welfare of their human resources. We have the necessary accreditation, experience, and expertise to provide the required technical services. This is a service we have been consistently providing, benefiting many MNCs and corporates. It also helps these companies maintain necessary control over their caterers to ensure that good hygiene practices are being followed. Demonstrating efforts by management to care for the welfare of employees is essential. Remember, "It's better to be safe than sorry" is a proverbial truth. Please feel free to contact me at
or call me at 09167232007.

There is no legal requirement as of now, but it is good to have the hygiene audit done by a third party wherein they certify. We used to get the audit done by M/s. Johnson Diversify Ltd, who are into Kitchen Wash and hygiene supplies (HLL) product.

Right, it is clear that there is no provision available in the Factories Act of 1948 for a hygiene certificate for the canteen. However, in state factories rules, some provisions are applicable/required for periodic medical examinations (Health Examination Certificate) of canteen workers by a medical officer.
You can conduct an audit for canteen hygiene.
Thanks,
Alok Singh
