Hi all, I have been working in an IT firm with a 1-month notice period for the last 3 years. I received an offer letter from another company, and they want me to join them in a week. I discussed this with my current manager, and they agreed to reduce my notice period to 20 days. I informed the new company about this, but they still insist on me joining within a week. I am unsure why they are in such a hurry. If they are really interested, shouldn't they be able to wait for 20 days?
I have developed a good relationship with my current company over the past 3 years, and I do not want to betray their trust. I am in a dilemma. Please advise me on what I should do now as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Regards,

Handling Job Offer Acceptance and Notice Periods
Many people, after accepting a job offer, do not join, and this often leads to various challenging situations and practices.
If you are genuinely interested in joining a new company, you must convince them of your intentions. Have an honest conversation with them and express your desire to leave your current position properly and ethically, just as you would prefer if, years later, you were to leave them for better opportunities. Once you have clarity on this matter, you can share your formally accepted resignation letter from your current company, clearly indicating your last working day. Any reputable company should value and promote such professional behavior.
It is always advisable to depart from any organization on good terms, in a respectful and courteous manner whenever possible. This is especially true if they have treated you well and you have been a part of their team for an extended period.
