Rights and Liabilities of Trade Unions under the Indian Trade Unions Act, 1926
Chapter III of the Indian Trade Unions Act, 1926, lays down the rights and liabilities of trade unions. Furthermore, a trade union frames bylaws for conducting its affairs. Please go through the same. To sum up its duties:
1. It undertakes welfare activities for its members.
2. It represents workmen's grievances to management.
3. It participates in the collective bargaining process.
4. It defends workmen in domestic inquiries.
5. It espouses the cause of workmen by raising industrial disputes before the appropriate forum under the relevant statutes, i.e., the Industrial Disputes Act, etc.
6. It represents workmen in conciliation and adjudication proceedings.
7. It shall refrain from indulging in unfair labor practices as enumerated in Schedule IV of the Industrial Disputes Act.
Hope this helps.
