Mr.JD
You can control social sites by blocking them it is possible in case of employees using your company computer or laptop.
But is is not possible to stop the use of social sites on their personal mobile phones.
You can reduce it by circulating notice, but if you want 100% ban then you have to ban use of mobile in office which now days almost impossible.
It is advised to create awareness amongst employees.

Hi Arun,
How to create awareness...do you have any suggestions? Ban on mobile phones will not be a practical solution.
Now a days there are very few who consider moral responsibility and refrain from such activities. I hope you agree with me.
thanks and regards

Dear JD,
With reference to your query .....in our office we have block the social sites .
WI-Fi connection is available for all office staff ..however we have register the Laptop and Mobile handset number with our IT admin.
IT person is monitorign the band width ....(of any dowload of songs, clips, picture ) whereby we intimate the user and trace the person..
We have mailed all employee ...about this ...hence now a days usage is in controll ...(however we cant stop it fully ).
This is suggestion for you which we tried .

This is partially one of the reasons why Facebook and other social sites are seeing an increase in MOBILE usage. And with the proliferation of smart phones - it is almost impossible to control this unless companies start operating like concentration camps.
The only way is probably educating your employees about "time management" and how they can control their urges to keep looking at their phone for updates. I am sure some of our trainer members will be able to help out with suggestions on how to achieve this.

Hi CHR,
Whatapp video's and joke messages are often circulated within the office and whole office get distracted for few minutes which ultimately costs the company manhours.
We need to train employees how these apps can be used in productive way, but here moral responsibility of the employee also comes in.
thanks and regards

Mr. Anish
I don't think its ethical as a employee I will never allow anybody to spy on my mobile its my own freedom to view & download content which i feel desired to.
I don't know how your employees are agreed to it and given consent to register their mobiles with company IT dept.
The same case If I try to implement in our company it will lead to great dispute.
And I don't think anyone should enter into anyone's personal boundary.
I am not at all agree with your suggestion it it my own view.

Mr. JD,
How you can come to know that you are loosing valuable man hours ?
Is any particular employee doing mistakes in his work ? is particular employee is keeping his work pending ?
If everything is going smooth & employees are giving 100% justification to their work then you should ignore to such things.
If your work is getting hampered & you have a proof that it is only because of excess use of mobile for social websites then only think of doing so.

Dear Arun ,
I am agree with your comments, In our case we have provided SIM cards to all our staff members (under corporate CUG plan).
Also, we do not check what is actually downloaded by the user , its matter only how employee can minimise the usage (in terms it will not affect the Wi-if load & hours).
Since employee's are aware there is monitoring system ....they are carefully about the usage.
Intension is not to interfare with the personal infomation......
Also...the services of wi-fy is provided by the company for official usage .(like office landline )..if somebody want to avail he need to register his handset number.
This massage is conveyed to the employees positively (if somebody willing to do so ....e.g : If you are an honest employee ...why dont you use wi -fy with declaration of your handset number ...we trust you ).
I already mentioned by this way we can controll ..however cant achiev 100%.
Thanks Arun for your view.....I respect.

Dear Arun,
Yes, we did a small survey and found out that the employees not using social networking sites are more efficient, fast and do a better time management compared to those who are using it specially for non productive work, they are distracted from regular routine and they also distract other. Work received from those not using meet all deadlines as compared to those using these apps. They often need extension of deadlines in projects.
There is also a few who use these sites for productivity of work, which is good. Hence I do not wish to block the sites.
thanks and regards
