hi, mine is a very small unit. my query is that if any employee joins between 1st to 15th or 16th to 30th of any month, then next year his appraisal will be due from 1st day of joining month if he joins between 1st to 15 & what about if any employee joins in 2nd part of month, his apraisal will be due from date of joining or will be applicable from next month.

hi,
Appraisals policies are at discretion of companies management and it varies with company to company and business to business. Your firm if does not have a policy in place, you should suggest to have one.
In my company appraisals are Calender event. We are appraised every year in and round Dec and our rating sent to HR for approvals. Any increment approved, is then paid effective financial calender i.e. in my case 1st April. We have a Policy that an employee should have worked atleast 6months before effective date payout; to be considered for any appraisal.
So, employee who join Nov/Dec, usually is not good time to join my company, but we have "out of appraisals policy" in place for special deserving cases.
Hope it helps.

Hi,
There is no particular rule/act for appraisal under laws, so it entirely depend upon the company's appraisal policy.
There are companies who do appraisal with minimum eligibility of 6 months or year, and there are companies who do appraisals for everyone, and salary increment is done on pro rata basis, i.e, depending on the no. of months/days worked in a financial year. So I will suggest go with the appraisal policy of your company and act accordingly.

Well, no need to worry and you can go with what you find better. Either, you can make all employees eligible for appraisal who joined in a particular month irrespective of date or you can divide it in two parts.
I would suggest to go for the month base means consider all the employees for appraisal who joined in a month either 1 to15 or 16 to 30 as it will be manageable in one go and will be easier instead of making appraisal separately based on joining date as delaying the appraisals just based on joining date with difference on 10-20 days does not make any sense.
Also, better if you implement some advanced payroll software and utilise it it get alert for the eligible candidates for appraisal time to time. You can try Saralpayroll that manages all your payroll, salary, appraisal process etc.
