Dear HR Skippers,

Greetings to All! My query is related to leave in between holidays. In my organization, we have the 2nd Saturday of every month observed as a holiday. So, in the month of November, as per our list of holidays, our office is consecutively closed for the 13th (Deepavali) & 14th (Vishwakarma Puja).

Now, the 2nd Saturday of November 2012 falls on the 10th. So, if I apply for leave on the 12th of November, i.e., in between the 10th (Saturday) & 11th (Sunday) and the 13th (Tuesday) & 14th (Wednesday), will it be counted as a long leave starting from the 10th or will it be counted as 1 leave?

NO. It will be treated as one day leave only as it falls between declared holiday and festival holiday

At the same time, if you take leave other than casual leave on both ends, i.e., on Friday, the 9th of November and the 15th of November, then the holidays and weekly off days (which will come in between the two leaves) will be counted as leave. Normally, this rule applies only to EL/PL or SL and not for CL. Similarly, in the case of the statutory leave available under the Factories Act, i.e., the Annual Leave with wages, the holidays and weekly off days intervening two leaves will not be counted as leaves.
