Dear Mr. Krishnakumar s,
Yes, you are right. As per the payment of Bonus Act, the bonus will be payabel to those with monthly salaries donot exceed Rs.10,000. Those who fall in between the slab of Rs. 3500 and Rs. 10,000, bonus will be calculated as the salary is Rs.3500.
The Statutory bonus of 8.33% is minimum payable and 20% is the maximum bonus. The percentage of the bonus payable by the employer depends on the profit made by the firm.
Calculation of bonus can be done if the agreed bonus is at 10% then (Basic + DA of individual employee for the year) and then take that 10% of it to make it to bonus. Make sure you would not take one months of salary of an individual to calculate for bonus as each month has different pays like it may add LOP's or any other leaves.
As per your example, BASIC + DA X 12X 10%
