Hi,

We are planning to have an induction kit for our new recruits. I think we should include the following items in our kit:

a) Employee Handbook
b) Induction PPT
c) Note Pad
d) Induction Program Details
e) Pen / Pencil
f) Diary
g) Company Newsletter/Pamphlets
h) A Brief about the unit/department the person is joining
i) HR Policies

Is there anything else we should include? Please let me know.

Hi friend,

I have two things to clarify here:

1. Introduction Kit is for 2 types of people viz. the new entrants into the organization and the others who are relocated to new places where systems are new:

I suggest the following:

As you rightly pointed out, new entrants can have all those mentioned by you. In addition, a mentor should be identified, and the company HR policy and various employee formats need not be given in hard copy. Most of the formats can be centralized and kept on your intranet (if you have) or kept as templates with policy descriptions in each format template. This means, a fresher, if he/she wants to apply for LTC, Tour, etc., will be able to open the template, read the policy, and understand the eligibility within the template of LTC or any other form and can be enlightened. Policies need not be given as part of the kit.

Regarding relocated employees, you can provide transfer claim formats, a brief of the new location, hierarchical structure with names of the heads of departments and their telephone numbers, telephone directory of the organization as well as local utility contact numbers such as gas, electricity, insurance company, etc. If they are posted in a city, a city/tourist guide can also be provided.

The above is only indicative, but we must try to provide as much information as possible to the new entrants.

If it's got to be an induction taken by an HR, he/she is supposed to give out all the policies, for example: leave, late, holiday, pay, etc. So hopefully, these are the basic things which would be included in any induction program.
