Hi Amith,

I have a question. 12% of the basic is calculated as PF contribution for both the Employee and employer. According to my knowledge, the employee contribution (12% of basic) is deducted from the salary, and the employer contribution, which the company will pay, is not deducted from the employee's salary, right?

In one of my friend's companies, as per the company compensation structure, both contributions are deducted from the employee's salary. Is this the correct way?

Hi, Gayatri.

PT stands for Professional Tax. There are two types of Professional tax: A) Employee Professional Tax and for Organisations & firms. Do you want to know about which PT? Both tax slabs vary from state to state. :)

Hello,

PT stands for Professional Tax. PT is applicable in some states. In Maharashtra, PT deduction is mandatory for all employees. In the financial year, a total of 2,500/- Rs is deducted over 12 months (i.e., April to March). 200/- Rs is deducted each month, but in February, 300/- Rs is deducted (11 months * 200 = 2,200 + 300 (for February) = 2,500/- per annum).
