I’m planning to build an HRMS application... Was just wondering if I can use DWH(Data Warehousing) concepts in it?

HRMS system will cover your day-to-day processes and activities that take place in the HR department across other functional groups. On the other hand, DWH would be used for analysis, statistical purposes, and summary reports. You can surely merge DWH into HRMS, but keep its functionality completely separate as its requirement is restricted to a particular user.

Hi friendly_gm,

Yes, you could use "data warehousing concepts" in your application. But which of the data warehousing concepts do you wish to use? If I were you, I would first start with a problem statement in terms of what functionality is required. Only much, much later would I worry about the technologies I would like to employ.

Regards,
Sayeed

I respectfully disagree with umalme. The basic database architecture of a relational database used for an HRMS and a data warehouse precludes them from being "merged" or in a shared database. The data warehouse simply uses different data structures to more easily facilitate multidimensional analytics and business intelligence. An HRMS and a relational database are optimized in data structure to enhance the efficiency of data transactions. The two types of applications, by definition, are separate data environments.

Just my opinion.
