Strategic thinking is No 1 requirement of entrepreneur. Since most of the entrepreneurs have very limited understanding of strategy, they end up in considering operational efficiency as strategy. Strategy sets the direction of the enterprise whereas operational efficiency measures how do we perform.
Strategic thinking demands strong focus on the market and competitors. Operational efficiency demands strong focus on the customer satisfaction. Following in general are the components of strategic thinking:
a) SBU Analysis
b) Corporate Analysis through SWOT
c) Industry Analysis through Michael Porter's 5S
d) Environment analysis through SERF (Social, Economic, Regulatory and Financial Environment)
