I have been asked to conduct a time and motion study in my organization to increase productivity and observe the laborers' inputs. Can anybody please explain how to conduct it?

Any person cannot conduct those studies without being trained. You need to undergo training in the methods as you should be able to judge the speed and effectiveness with which one is working. For example, can you judge the speed at which a person is walking just by observing him/her walk. However, before you set a rate, you should conduct a method study to establish the appropriate method.
As you have not given enough details about the nature of the work, it is not possible to suggest which of the many methods (time-study, MTM, RWF, Activity Sampling) available to select.

Thank you for your response. It is actually a reputable printing press. The issue is that our laborers have become accustomed to working overtime and being compensated for it. Therefore, management has requested that I conduct a time and motion study to determine the actual manpower required. Could you please provide guidance on what steps I should take?

Like I said earlier, you need to be trained to do it properly. If I have to guide from the UK, you need to give me more information. A diagram of the physical layout, a flow diagram of the job, etc. I suggest that you engage a consultant or request your management to send you on a course; also, kindly contact the Productivity Council Welcome to National Productivity Council.
